History of the Walnut Creek Neighborhood Association

The WCNA Neighborhood Association was created in 1986 so that we could be annexed (incorporated) into the city. The purpose was to allow the neighborhood to have a voice at Austin City Council pertaining to development along Lamar. At the time the city limits had expanded to Walnut creek and encompassed only properties along major arterial roadways (Lamar & Braker). Our neighborhood was already well established so the city left us under county zoning and building rules. With the partial annexation in 1986 we fell under Austin zoning and construction rules but did not pay city taxes or receive city benefits. In 2000 we petitioned and were granted full annexation into the city.
